Man Utd to rest key players?

Newcastle United travel to Old Trafford on the first day of the season, and there is some suggestion that Sir Alex Ferguson will rest some of his star players that appeared at the World Cup. These players include Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and France captain Patrice Evra. Also Nemanja Vidic, Park Ji-Sung and new signing Javi Hernandez may sit out the opener. It is yet to be known whether Rio Ferdinand will be fit for that game, and Owen Hargreaves will probably miss out.

That results in 8 top players being missing for the Red Devils. Most of which would be in the starting line-up. Even though these players will be missing, Man Utd still have a very strong squad and possible starting line-up. If the rumours are true about resting the players I expect their line up to be:
             Van Der Sar
  Neville Brown  Evans  Fabio
Valencia Fletcher Scholes Giggs
            Berbatov Owen

It is still a good side, but it isn't unbeatable and doesn't look formidable. The back four can also be easily got at with Jonas up against the ageing legs of Gary Neville while Routledge will be up against the inexperienced Fabio. Andy Carroll will also fancy his chances in the air against both Brown and Evans as well. The midfield and the strikers are the thing to be worried about, but if we can keep them at bay, I can see us scoring a couple of goals.

The first game of the season is the best time to play Sir Alex's team. Think back to the start of the 08-09 season when we battled to a 1-1 draw after taking the lead through an Obafemi Martins header. It was a great result for us and a repeat or even better is possible this season in my opinion.

Comments welcome.

  1. Its probly just a smoke screen man! How cud he know wat his xi is gunna be a month before the game. The side ya named is only really 3 of the rested players down ,rooney vidic n evra, (plus the injured rio) vidic only played 3 n evra only played 2 so they have been off for 3 weeks already. Surely thay can play - bops

  2. I'm just speculating! For me Park is a massive part of the Man Utd team and his work rate and effort is missed by them when he doesnt play.
